[#8003656]

Would love to get some regular rides going again but in the spirit of walking before running thought I'd suggest a simple ride next week.

Would suggest the usual meeting spots

Omni Centre 'Giraffes' for 5:15pm

Lochrin Basin (where the Union Canal starts/ends in Fountainbridge) for 5:30pm

Bonaly Village Store for 6pm

Do a simple loop (probably Clubbiedean - Poets - Harbour Hill - White Hill - Dreghorn - Mortonhall - Morningside) back for 8ish.

I'll be on an 29er hardtail but won't be smashing out any sort of crazy pace, just re-introducing myself to the trails!

Anyone keen?

I might be if the offer is open to all and you'd be happy for me to bail out if I'm out of my league. [I would be mortified to hold people back and quite happy to go on alone if necessary].

Maybe for old times. Might be a little too early for me though.

in the old days we were at Bonaly fir 7pm, these upstarts just want to change everything

I'm keen depending on child duties. Would likely be at the canal where it ends / starts.

I've got a Durness trip that day. Shame as I might have made the effort to pop down.

I'd have been interested, but going on holiday next day - assuming I survive K&QotH in one piece

I'd love to start doing a regular Wednesday night ride if others in the area are keen. Bikeless right now but that will soon be sorted. I probably could only manage a 6.30pm start though at Bonaly, and suspect others may be the same? Would be good to get a reasonable size group so someone always turns up and always meet at the same place/ time.

While my work is near the canal I'd maybe meet you over in the Pentlands so I can pop home and ride out. May be in Newcastle that day anyway. Bookmarked at least!

No need to apologise, it's been a while since there was a regular Pentlands ride. The pace was always very friendly in the past, not the kind of ride where people were left behind.

Great, sounds like a few interested at least!

Time: Happy to put back to 6:30pm at Bonaly, just bring some wee lights for a dusk ride back through the city

Pace: Had been hoping for 'brutally attritional' but sociable will have to do, all welcome

Why this late in the summer?: Because it's taken me 18 months of indecision to finally get an MTB again!

AndyK, totally agree re regular spot and good size group, think we struggled in the past as the same people couldn't always make the same day/time.

Aye, I'm up for it. Will be at Bonaly for half six.

Will there be beer and scampi fries?

If we can finish at the Flotterstone that would be ideal. Mmkay?

Also, in full run-before-walk mode, once the midgies have gone does anyone fancy turning this into a camp / bivvy? Take hip flasks and watch the sun go down then come up and head our merry ways to work.

Where's ojom when such plans are being bandied about?

Bah! Can't get above photo to work. You'll just have to imagine a scene of bivy spot, bike, sunset taken in Pentlands....

Run? Why not make it a gallop Jimmy? 8)

Like the bivvy idea, one for later in September? Means we could maximise trail time without having to get back down for dusk.

Could work a route towards Flotterstone, at least to the bealach between Capelaw and Allermuir?

edit: although for the sake of the group ride gaining anye sort of momentum it might be best keeping the wednesday slot for the non-specialist interest groups so as to not put off the non-bivviers!

We could start and finish at the Flotterstone for purely selfish reasons.

+1 for a flotterstone one, I can then nab a lift home or ride over the kips in a drunken state.

Flotterstone is selfish on my part, I'll be heading back that way from a convenient point in the ride but don't alter the route for me.

EDIT: but anyone else fancying a pint to finish...

Well look at that, you go away for 5 years & it stirs again... ๐Ÿ™‚
Might be along at the shop, pending approval of o-o-date bike / wheels / attitude

p.s. be alert at wounded knee, what little bridging there was is down to a couple of spindly roots!

Who is Gerry, then? Met you at K&Q today but didn't fancy talking STW behind Chipps Chippendale himself (busmans holiday?)

I may have called him "one of those singletrack weirdos" at the GT7, because he was wearing a singletrack jersey- I didn't recognise him and thought he was one of us forum dickheads ๐Ÿ˜†

Varying evenings?

Please no ๐Ÿ™

If we want any sort of regularity I was hoping to move away from weekly negotiations of time, place and day, instead just settling on 6:30pm at Bonaly, every Wednesday (pretty sure the TBC rides were the same evening every week?).

Route choice open to prior discussion just to give us something to talk about on here before hand 8)

We don't have to settle on Wednesday of course, would just rather pick a day and try stick to it.

Seem sensible?
