Contemplating switching to 2x9 as an interim measure; with a bit of spreadsheet hackery it looks like 40/26 will work as all I'll lose is a gear off the top and one off the bottom. Some slightly bone questions:
- Will a 2x10 front mech work with 9sp chain & a 14 tooth drop?
- If so, is the cable pull the same for 9sp & 10sp front mechs?
- If not, which front mech is it that I need? Was there an SLX one with a 14 tooth capacity?
Thanks,
Andy
Yes, the Shimano FD66- 2x9 version handles a 14 tooth drop on my 36 22.
Not sure about cable pull on front mechs. ... it differs on Dynasis 10 spd rear mechs, afaik.
As above, an SLX double front mech will work a 2x9. You could also use a triple and stop it overshifting with the limit screw.
Thanks - IIRC the usual front mech capacity is 12T. Plan was to use the limit screws to stop overshifting.
Anyone know about the 10sp mechs?
Andy
Pretty much anything should work in my experience....... currently i'm running 40/27 on a m970 triple front mech with the limit screws set to one shift as you mention above, work well.
EDIT: Pretty sure i ran 42/28 with the same mech/shifters without issue too
Thanks - I shall give it a go with my current XT M770 front mech; shifting performance can't be worse/more clunky than it is at the moment.
