[#3253189]

Just a quick one - building a stumpy FSR 07 up and need to select a mech for the XT groupset. It originally had a downswing mech on it (clamp above guide), spesh say top swing (clamp below guide) and the spesh original website listing says top swing but shows a downswing on the picture.

I know the downswing works but I prefer the top swing, I can't see any reason why either wouldn't work but does anybody have one/know for definite? The group is coming from Germany so I can't just swap it out.

Cheers

I'm assuming you're asking about an alloy frameset? (The carbon one won't take a bottom swing mech)
I'd guess both material models will have the chainstays meet the frame at the same point? If so a top swing mech should work also
Just the top swing mech is a pain to setup, requiring a hex sided pinchbolt to get a spanner on to clamp the cable while in inner ring position (Mine came with one), If it wasn't for the tube getting fatter on the carbon one as it goes to meet the 'ladies legs' around the shock I'd have had a bottom swing mech on by now

Yeah, sorry M5 alloy frameset. From what I can see that's what I thought, there is enough evenly sized frame tube to get either one on, the rear link shouldn't foul either but the bottomswing would be a lot more accessible and possibly a bit less likely to fill with general crap.

The topswing just looks a bit cleaner though.

Edit: Just looked at the carbon one on the spesh site, and that shows topswing but describes it as bottom swing. Either very confusing, or I'm just being a muppet and getting mixed up in which is which.

I'd guess the spesh site is confused and you're not. So long as I've not had it wrong for years it is as top swing swings over the top, bottom swing swings underneath
