[#2339454]

I'm about to put a deposit on a new frame, but I think I'm stuck between sizes - medium & large.

The horizontal TT on the med is 580mm and the large is 600mm, the seat post on the med is 475mm and the large 500mm.

I've sat ridden a couple of other bikes of similar style 130/140mm FS but annoyingly their TT's for the mediumds are closer to 590mm.

In general would it be better to go slightly smaller, bear in mind it'll be built with a layback post and more than likely a 70 or 90mm stem

BTW I'm 5'10" with a 32.5" inside leg

Unless you have a decent positive ape index, then you're a medium.

(Obviously some frames are small for a medium i.e. Commencal, Santa Cruz, Giant, Scott, but 580mm sounds average to me...)

Your height is in your legs, so i'd have thought the tt would be the least of your worries - i'd be looking at how much of the seatpost would need to be out of the seattube... i.e. is a 350mm seatpost too short on the medium?

What frame are you looking at BTW?

10mm, 1cm - I doubt I'd even notice the change (up or down) unless you told me

If you're a weird shape, get a test ride and buy from a shop rather than saving a few quid online

I would go for the smaller frame and get a longer stem and layback

I'd always go smaller, because I like smaller more 'chuckable' frames and never seem to get the most out of frames on the downs if they're a little big. But that's just my opinion and I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell me why I'm wrong! All I know is I've never regretted buying a bike on the small side but have very much regretted getting a couple that turned out to be a little big. Oh and personally I would definitely notice 20mm extra TT length...

This is what I was thinking, medium it is then.

It's new Nicolai Helius CC to replace my old (with different geo) one. It's direct from the UK importer hence the over the phone/t'interweb purchase.

All I gotta do now is pick the colour
