Hi,
Ive got a Deore M590 Crankset, and am trying to polish up the arms as ( http://www.velosolo.co.uk/jjcrank.html ), spent a hour or so with sandpaper, after my ( admittedly cheap and old) paint stripper did nothing.
Is there any easily accessible way of chemically stripping off the powder coat?

I think you can use oven cleaner. Try searching the bike forum for crank polishing, it's been discussed before.
