I have a Tomac Buckshot that I want to convert to ss. I'm changing the colour as it is/was very tatty. Thought it was going to be easy and just a case of pouring Nitromors over and a bit of wire wool to rub the paint off.
Not the case! I tried yesterday and left it a good half hour each time outside. The white is coming off just but the blue isn't really lifting. Any tips please?
If you're gonna paint it yourself look in Yellow Pages for metal refinishers and get someone to beadblast it to get all the paint off it (should cost about £20).
If you're gonna get it powder coated then look up powder coaters and they'll get the frame blasted prior to powder coating (last one I had done was £40 all in)
You need to lay the Nitromors on pretty thick and then leave it to activate. It can take five or ten minutes to get going, especially on powdercoat. You don't need any scouring/sanding; that's the whole point of using a stripper.
curly68 - where abouts are you based?
If your in the S-Wales area I can get it sandblasted for you foc.
Thanks for the replies guys. Money is a bit tight at the mo, thats why I wanted to do it myself.
Mooman- nowhere near S Wales but thanks for the offer.
use the automotive nitromors, not the household one, cant remember the exact names of either but one is definitely stronger. as said before, lay it on thick, then tape it in an airtight bag and put it somewhere warm. hope that helps.
A paintbrush is your friend.
Paste the (automotive, as mentioned above) Nitromors on with the brush and keep working it in with the brush until it starts going gunky and dropping off.
Repeat.
Nitromors is great, but needs work to make it strip really well.
