[#5758661]

On todays ride my X0 cranks stripped their threads and came off, leaving me a hilly walk home (with a bit of comedy 1 footed pedalling thrown in!!).

I think it is the thread on the main axle that is stripped. Are they FUBAR'ed, or fixable?

I'd have thought you could try getting the threads re-cut?

You may be able to get a specialist to helicoil it, may not be cost effective?

Now I have stripped and cleaned the crank, it's only the self extracting bolt that's stripped 😀 So that's £11 not 200!!

I stripped the self-extracting bolt on my XX1 cranks (big 'oh shit' moment!).. at a guess I would say they are designed to be sacrificial to prevent over-tightening damaging the cranks themselves.

Yes, that makes sense.

Whilst searching for replacements, I did find X0 cranks for £170 at bike-discount.de

Now I need to get a 16mm hex key!!!
