What do folk think of the new Strava Privacy Settings - I've always kept all my rides as private (not runs) and I have enhanced privacy enabled.
I'd really like to show my friends how awsum I am though :P. What's the risk of me not uploading rides as private? I see you can now opt out of the heat map stuff. If I do that will just my friends be able to see?

I just have an exclusion zone around the house and one from a mates house I ride from. Apart from that it's all fine. I do seem to have attracted the diet coke girls who come out to see my awesome commute when they time it right (I might have imagined that part...)

Definitely set a big exclusion zone around your house and anywhere else you ride to/from regularly where the bike could be found so that you aren't giving signpost, also consider how much kit detail you want to publish, but otherwise if you want to strava, then strava.

I'm a bit anti-strava for small trails that should be local knowledge due to damage potential, but that's me...

I'm of the same mind vince [but I'm also a massive hypocrite...]. which is why I've always kept stuff as private and up until recently I've had no 'friends' on it. Was miffed the other day to find one of my favourite trails has been turned into a segment.

All my rides are suddenly locked by default and hidden away, what's that about?!

so you are choosing to share rather than by default.

I noticed that the Exclusion circle is a bullseye of the postcode you centred it on...I therefore set my exclusion zone to a somewhat close postcode...</tinfoilhat>

Set up several exclusion zones to ensure your start/end points are hidden.

Cant you make it so only people who follow you can see you rides etc? I'm sure that's how I've got mine set. Then only accept people as followers who you know and trust.

That is mainly only for people looking at your profile. If you set rides to public and they go on leaderboards (even in 6301st) anyone can click on your time and see your ride.

HOWEVER!

There is now an option to post a ride as public BUT 'hide from leaderboard' to keep it off leaderboards. I guess that is what most people have been after, making rides private to only friends or groups you are in (group members can see your rides in the group timeline). Might still leave rides open to being found by searches?

As everyone has said though, hide your start point always.
