clicked on the free trial offer the other day and honestly can't see anything worth having 🙁

What's in it for a non-racing non-training non-HRM wearing dodderer - is there anything I should try out ?

(don't get me wrong, I like the free version but all I really do is track my own rides and occasionally take the piss out of my mates)

^this^ It's all about one upmanship and willy waving... imo.

Yes I tried it too and couldn't see anything to justify paying for it each month.

I think you can do enough of that with the basic model - the premium seems to cater for needs I can't even envisage and I doubt "anyone" looks at other people's HR or power data

or do they ?

Nothing I don't think, that's what it seems to be aimed at

You can download other riders routes as GPX files. Great when riding in a new area, apart from this, the free version is more than enough.

You can do the GPX thing without premium membership. Just create a route from anyones activity and download that.

I'm premium mainly because I really like it and use it a lot and want to support them.

Free sufferfest videos are nice (but I have them all)

I'm quite liking the fitness and freshness tool at the moment, and imagine with a power meter it would be useful. Interesting comparing 3 years or so of data, it seems to correspond with times I felt strongest/scored best results.

You can filter leaderboard based on age / weight which I don't think you can on normal

Not really "worth" it IMO,

I got it for the hrm features mainly and trying to better my previous high sufferscore. Picked up a wahoo tickr, and its great for seeing how much im pushing on various segments.

I like it too, and I'd pay a bit to support them but it's really quite steep for a set of features I'm not able/interested to use

Same as a few folks above, I really like it and don't mind paying to support it.

Don't think I'll ever beat my suffer score that I managed doing the Fred Whitton last Sunday - 569 😯

I don't use any of the premium features either. But sign up for 4 or 5 months a year to support them. It's easy to cancel your subscription, just pay as much as you like.

As a similar non racing, non HRM wearing etc,. rider I didn't get anything out of it for the price either.

The only thing I found useful was being able to use the age filter thinking as a 47 year old my top ten places would become KOMs. Turned out most of the other riders in the top ten on each segment are not that young either so walked away from it with tail between legs...

I'm premium partly to support something that is ad-free plus it gives me access to the heatmaps. Using a 2015 only one to steer me away from riding the same spots all the time (natural and trail centre) and it's working!

For something that gives me access to all sorts of stuff online and allows a bit of friendly competition and banter between friends across the country, £3-4 a month is a bargain!

OP - I don't think you're missing the point, more that the point is missing you. The premium features are very good VFM if you're into measuring stuff on your ride - the Fitness/Freshness graph was previously only really something you'd get with an expensive package like trainingpeaks. If that's not your bag then your cash is probably better elsewhere.

IMO they ought to put a few more bits behind the paywall, and maybe lower the price a smidge.

Anyway, I also like to support them - and subscribing is more appealing than wearing one of their jerseys TBH.

It doesnt make a lot of sense to me to pay premium just to "support" Strava. They support themselves with venture capital and by selling the data we give them. Eventually they will advertise to us with the final goal of selling the company for megabucks to facebook or google. They're not a charity, put your subscription into local trails or mountain rescue!

We want to be able to recommend what gear to buy when they’re ready to upgrade and get something new. We collect all this data on user’s gear and we want to be able to turn that back around and show what similar people are using. We would then refer users to a place where they could buy that gear and we’d share in the revenue coming from that.

Who are the potential buyers of Strava?

Who it really needs to be is a media property. A company in the online business already. It could be a Facebook or Google who really sees that Strava has connected to a core group of people
