Hi guys,
Got a long ride tomorrow, so want to get the most battery life from my Nexus 5. Been reading up and found all sorts of conflicting advice.
If I put it in Airplane mode, will the GPS tracking still work fine?
If not, can I turn off data/cellular, or does Strava need that? Does battery saving mode stop GPS working fully?
Thanks,
Duane.
I don't have a nexus
I THINK :
airplane mode still allows GPS to work (you could test this right now, couldn't you?), and strava doesn't need a phone signal
Battery saving uses only wifi and phone masts, so will be shit
Yes, it works in Aeroplane mode.
Or turn mobile data off, still works but less saving.
I read that someone had used Airplane mode, it had worked for a while, and then cut out after a few miles - hence not sure if trying it out quickly will help.
How long a ride?
mobile data and having your screen on are the two biggest battery killers.
I can track a strava ride easily for a full 24 hours while simultaniously bluetoothing music to my handsfree but if I turn on data (or wifi in a cafe etc.), stop and take pics or use social media etc. it drains battery pretty quickly.
never even thought of using airplane mode.
Probably 8-9 hours, but the battery life on my Nexus seems to be terrible.
Nexus 5, regularly use Aeroplane mode for a full ride, even just a 3 hour one as the battery is indeed terrible!
G-s - that's using Strava? And no issues with gps tracking?
Yes
No
