So I've only gone and been accepted into Strathpuffer. What bike Is best for the event? Currently thinking ss hardtail bike with option of studs or mud tyres but would fat bike be better?

Fat bike was amazing last year. Not the fastest but grippy and comfy.

I'm going geared 29+ Stooge, potentially with either fat bike or SS in reserve

You don't really need a fatbike.

But they're bloody great at moronic o'clock with their ability to steamroll over the nadgery bits [s]while you're dozing[/s].

Definitely SS rigid (there's a singlespeed class for solos).

I'm asking myself the same thing. Have done it twice in a team, but solo this time round. Ss was brilliant in a quad, but not sure I can stomach that for 24 hours. Thinking probably the 29+ with 29 and fatty in reserve

Yep, Agree with Dan.

I'll be using Spectral 29er, 1x10, shorty up front and something reasonably beefy but not draggy on the rear.

However, I am not racing, merely surviving!.
