Solo spots already filled up. I am stupid enough to be one of them. Anyone else from here doing it this time round?

nikk - i've done it four times now - once as a four, once as a duo and twice solo. great event and the atmosphere is what makes it 'fun'. the dawn lap is always a good one. have you done it before or is the first one?

Signed up as a pair. Have done it solo a few times. It's a great event whatever the weather. Snow/ice/mud just makes it all the more interesting!

Nobeer - me and Robin are both doing the solo. Have you sorted out a pit crew? Funnily enough no one seems keen.

I'm in as a pair with Cynic-Al. I think I'll take the fat bike too, but maybe get some skinny ice spikers just in case...

Cynic Al better hurry up and get his new frankenframe to me for welding soon then! 😉

Tomd - Hadn't really thought about a pit crew, So many other things to think about. Campervan, generator and heating are the priorities atm!. I'll see you tonight if you're going to AGM Tom?.

camper van - for solo. what are you a poof ?

dont even bother with a tent would be my advice - if theres no where warm to curl up then riding your bike to keep warm suddenly looks a great prospect.

Cheers, yeah I made it, it has a couple of metres of stainless steel chimney too. Borrowed one for last years puffer and melted my trainers, great for cooking too.

We used a dustbin incinerator and a heap of my fire wood last year- what a differance to moral at 4 am knowing you had warm shoes to put on - and dry shoes from them sitting steaming for a couple hours infront of the stove

Yup, a bit of warmth goes a long way in those circumstances. Just got to make sure someone is feeding the fire at all times!

Bumping this thread again.

Can anyone tell me about the brake pad thing?

[img] [/img]

I can't get my head round the stories of people going through pads every 2 laps.

Does this happen to EVERYONE? or it is a case of poor brake setup / wrong pad compound / low quality pads falling off their backing?

When we can normally get 1000 miles out of a set of pads, how are they getting all used up in 14?

Am I really going to have to buy 10+ pairs of pads? Looking at £120 for that...

The last 2 years I've got through on one set of sintered pads (7 laps & 9 laps). Suffered from pad munching on the second year the event ran though.
The only noticable difference was when my pads got munched it was pissing it down & cold compared with cold & damp when they didn't.

It is very abrasive, I'd recommend sintered pads prebedded in before you go. I done about 8 laps as a quad on one set of pads, might of got another lap out of them if I was lucky.
