I ride xc and trail centre, any Stourbridge members on here?
How often do you guys get away for road trips,Coed y Brennin and the like?

I've looked at the Stourbridge website a couple of times, Based in Wolvo so its nearly as close to go to the chase instead, but interested in what they have to offer!

Certainly no club but we get out up the chase sunday mornings, wednesday and thursday nights and have regular away days to the peaks/lakes and welsh trail centres etc and there are a couple of unsavoury characters from great barr that ride around Sandwell valley too

๐Ÿ˜†

I'm a member but only occaisionally ride with them. There are 3 groups who ride on a Saturday morning. The 9:15am group is generally the one I go for. Great bunch of lads - sometimes the rides can get quite slow, purely because of the amount of people who turn up for a ride. 9:30 group is more or less a pootle.

I've never been on a club evening ride as I tend to do my own thing.

A couple of members are trying to arrange club rides further afield, I've never been on one, cba if I'm honest.

Met a few of these guys http://www.stourbridgevelo.com/ out in majorca last month. I didn't get my bike and baggage for 2 days and one of the guys from the club gave me a load of spare kit.

Plus they are sponsored by a brewery!

Tricky.

All the Stourbridgevelo guys we've met have been fine.

I think they were a breakaway group from Sourbridge. ๐Ÿ˜†

Stourbridge Velo are betterer cos they have a beer logo on their tops.

Stourbridge cc are IME a bunch of tools. ("you may NOT overtake the lead rider") or words to that effect from their website.

How about Halesowen ACC? They're into MTB, plus you get access to their velodrome if that's your thing.

*Waves back at Stu*

Doesn't Velo have their club meets in the pub too?

LLama, SCC meet at the Bonded warehouse so they do use the canal to link up Kinver and the like. It depends who leads the rides as to where they go.

Bullandbladder, the rides seem to be a little more relaxed these days, although I have experienced the attitude you mention in the past.

I went with them once last year on a saturday 9am ride, good bunch of lads, but the ride was a bit boring tbh-a lot of canal and road. As Lee said though i guess it depends who leads it- the ride I went on was led by a cyclocross guy

RD is probably THE local legend when it comes to knowing the miles and miles of alpine singletrack we have strewn across the slopes and valleys of the NW Alps.

When I first got a mtb I used to go out with them, generally its a bit dull but some of the lads were real friendly down to earth guys....I wasn't very fit (still not) but I'm all about the downs, fast, swoopy, jumpy, rooty and gravity biased riding. I was mostly last to the top and I heard the gasps of disgust as I raced past the leader on the way down. We came to a 2 foot drop.....they made a big thing of it! Says it all. BUT if you want to ride steady with others xc style (or fast xc with the later ride) its ok.

Hook up with them one time see if you like it & take it from there, might be just these type of riding your looking for.

Hi,

Prospective new members are always welcome to come along to any of the clubs rides to see how they get on with us. We currently run a number of XC rides on Saturday mornings starting from the Bonded Warehouse by the canal, there are also some evening rides, usually Wednesday nights. Details of all of these can be found on our website here.

We are currently arranging a series of rides outside of the locally area once a month. Next one is on the 28th when the plan is to head up to the Peaks for a days riding, again details are on the forum.

As of the AGM last month we had around 160 paid up members and this will probably grow back to around 200 as people remember to pay there subs. We regularly get 50 plus riders out off-road on a Saturday and routes cover Kinver, Clent, Enville and Dudley. Turn up for one of the 9:15 rides on Saturday and see what you think, we will try and make you welcome.

Jackson

I'm regularly on the saturday 9:15 XC ride but tbh I'm only on it for the fitness training. I'm the sort of guy that will go up at a reasonable pace but will blast the downs and tbh it isn't the club for you if that's what you do. If I know the descents I am allowed to go ahead of the pack otherwise I'll get caught behind a mincer or I'll have to drop to the back and leave a minutes gap. For my fun I'll go to the dirt jumps, DH track or just an XC ride more focused on really good descents with some mates that enjoy riding the same stuff. If you're an out and out XCer you'll fit right in, I'm not and am the odd one out in knee pads and on a 160mm travel bike I still have fun on the rides. Just come along to one and see if you like it or not.

We don't ride in one big group of 50 odd riders ๐Ÿ™‚ , that would completely unworkable at gates and at the cafe stop half way round. There are 3 main groups, a smallish 9am group, this is the longest and fastest of the rides; one or more 9:15 groups, we try and keep the number of riders to a maximum of 15 so when we have a big turnout we will split this group into multiple rides; a 9:30 ride aimed at anyone who wants to turn up and get out on there bike, this ride has the most fixed format and is the easiest of the rides we lead.

The guidance on passing the leader from the website is:

It is courteous to stay behind the leader.
in practice what this means is don't charge past the person who knows the route and miss a turn, we like to return to Stourbridge with the same number of riders we set out with! There are lots of places however where the route and re-group point are obvious and people are welcome to pass the ride leader if they can catch them.

In short we try and have the minimum amount of structure in place to make these rides work for everyone who comes along.

Jackson.

They don't like it very much when people do.

Seems to spoil their set routine. ๐Ÿ˜†
