[#1147855]

Right, I'm off for a two year placement with the VSO in Ethiopia.

I don't want to get rid of my Turner, so was going to dismantle it and store it in the loft of my flat.

The flat will be let out whilst I'm away.

Any tips for storing?

Paul

Loft is going to be locked.

I do have a garage, which is not being let, but I'd rather not leave a bike there.

Friends garages have been offered, but I'd rather not burden them.

I was thinking of stripping it down, and then boxing up the parts, so it didn't look bike-like.

And most of my other posessions are going to be stored in the loft...

Anything in the loft like water tanks etc? I'd wouldn't count on anyone not needing to access them during the next two years.

My friend moved to the US and let his house out. He stored loads of his possesions in the loft and plastered over the access door.

give it a good strip down/ service/ lube up. maybe store components seperately, wrapped in something waterproof. maybe those vacumn duvet bags?

If they need access, the tenant has to ask for it.

And in 13 years I've never needed to access the water tank in a hurry...

I know a number of people who have rented properties on the same basis- loft being used for storage.

Don't think I'd go as far as plastering over the hatch though!

only thing I can see being a problem is rubber seals in shocks and brakes decaying. 2 years in an environment that has quite high temp fluctuations might leave them all needing a refresh when you get it out. Might be best not to service too much when it goes in but budget to do it when it comes out?
