My lad runs sram on his bike.
Sram 11sped chain, gx mech, sram X1 cranks, sram cassette.
I wanna fit a spare wheel but it's Shimano style freehub, so can I run a Shimano cassette or do I need a sram but compatible with Shimano hub type?

The hub spacing is the same across brands at the same speed
But some sram hubs are xd driver
I think you’ll be fine if you don’t have a 10 tooth sprocket

As above Sram 1130 cassette is 11-42 and ShimanoHG splines
Sram 1150 cassette is 10-42 and SramXD fitting
What cassette has he now?
