[#6479542]

Hi,

This bike was stolen this evening from the Morningside area of Edinburgh.

It's a 2012 in blue and was a custom spec so would be immediately obvious if it appears for sale anywhere.

18" frame, Maxle rear end
Fox 32 140mm RLC
Fox RP23 Kashima coated
Red Hope PRO2 Hubs
Mavic 717 rims
Red Answer handlebars
XT Brakes, cranks, mechs and shifters
Reverb seatpost

Picture taken this morning:

I'd be really grateful if any information relating to the location of the bike is sent to orange5DOTstolenATgmailDOTcom

Thanks.

So many thefts in Edinburgh recently. Was it taken from your car or your house?

Taken from the car sadly. Was locked to rack but they've somehow bent the arm and manoeuvred the bike out. Car was parked about 20 min and within seeing distance the whole time.

Pretty annoyed at myself now. Only the second time I've managed to get out on the bike this year too.

Police have taken plenty details but I've not got much hope of it surfacing.

Agree on the Edinburgh, must be a very organised gang in operation. I'll keep a look out.

There's a lot going on, and a lot of "suspicious people on bouncing bikes" particularly in the usual hotbeds. I'm particularly keen to ask the blue Fila tracksuit laddie where he got his 888 Kona Stinky from etc...

I reckon in some of the recent cases, people are definitely being followed.

Have the police made any big seizures recently?

We had a bit of an issue with an idiot on a scooter following us into town but never thought any more of it at the time. Could be nothing but he had a good look when we parked up.

From the way the rack was bent whoever it was has done it before. Still haven't worked out how they actually got the frame out the claw. The lock wasn't touched.

The officer I spoke to was saying that there's an operation on just now focused on recovering stolen bikes. He didn't mention how effective it was though...

nightmare, will keep eyes peeled but doubt it's still round here.

I have the same rack and having seen this vid I don't leave the bike in it

The world is packed full of scrotes, thieves, liars and cheats and so I never leave my bike unattended.

There are an absolute **** tonne of high end bikes in and around the Muirhouse area just now. They are in and out of the Oxcars Court block of flats all the time. There are also lots of motorbikes being stolen and joyridden round the area and even a Lambo was stolen and crashed here recently. We need a cull of the local youth.

@bigjim, blooming heck that was quick/easy.

Will be keeping someone in the car when we nip to the shop while driving to trail head.

I am always so paranoid too. I suppose I let my guard down, nice area, on a street parked amongst some nice cars, ground floor flats with people in and walked less than a minute away from the car.

I know it's naive to think the 591 is indestructible but I would have expected it to put up more of a fight than that.

If you do happen to see it can you let them know the front brake needs a bleed, the reverb is in need of a service and the frame bearings need changed too. Can't have them thinking I don't look after it! 😆

Seen That vid before and whilst not in the habit of leaving bikes on roof I occassionaly can't avoid it for a short time so I wrap a big lock round frame and roof bars. Wouldn't stop a tooled up determined thief but may put off the shake and grab approach.

2 bang tidy DJ bikes flying along Russell road along cycle path to muirhouse right now. Couldn't catch them. Phoned plod.

Makes sense, running them between dalry and muirhouse etc.

If I actually catch another it'll be my third this year. Some hobby. I'd love to believe the police were TRYING REALLY HARD

MtbCraig you mentioned a scooter boy acting suspiciously? Was it blue with sections of silver with L Plates on?

I honestly can't remember. I didn't pay enough attention to him.

Sounds like you've had a similar experience?

Gutted for your loss! I used to use a 591 but if I was ever going out of eye shot I would add a chain through the bike frame and the roof rails.....same on tow bar mounted rack I used through triangle of tow bar and through frame.....and once I had dropper post I used to use thin cable lock to run through all the seat rails and through a frame. I know my mates thought I was doing overkill but thieving scumbags can strike anywhere, at any time.

Just a quick update on this.

Thanks to the help of a kind stranger who noticed a photo of my bike on Instagram after it was stolen, the police managed to get a warrant to search the premesis of the owner of the Instagram account. (I'm guessing this individual was already known to the police considering how keen they were to get an excuse to search the house.)

A few bikes were found but no sign of mine sadly.

The theif has been in front of the children's reporter and the outcome is little more than nothing, but better than him getting away with it completely I suppose.

Still, the replacement bike will arrive next month and won't ever be left out of sight!

Link to the Instagram account? I'd be keen to make sure if I see that scrote around that I take note.

Just had a look and it has been closed. He's probably made another account which doesn't have his name and address linked to it.

Pretty sure he's one of the group behind the majority of bike thefts around the city. Gang of teens taking what they want because they can.
