Following a speculative bid on ebay, I've got a new (to me) Hope Enduro front wheel for the price that a lot of people are asking for a Hope hub. It's arrived and all seems straight. So far so good.
However there's sticky muck all over the rim, Gorilla tape residue is reasonably straightforward to remove from the bed of the rim, but the outside has what looks like glue / sealant residue that won't pick off and nothing I've tried to use as a solvent has softened.
Are there any sealants that dry like concrete, and if so what have people used to get them off?
Do people actually stick tubeless tyres on with Evo Stick?
A picture would probably help! It's not the end of the world for something that gets ridden through the filth, although annoying. However I'm worried that on the inside of the bead, it may well stop the tyre sealing properly...

sheep sh*t can go rock hard if you let it set, could be that...
Maybe try leaving the rim immersed in some warm water for a while and see if that softens it up, whatever it is
Probably just old sealant...i know my stans rims have spots of stans sealant externally that has gone brown overtime and set pretty solid
I'll give it a soak in the sink with some soapy water, that sounds a good call.
Xylene will get it off if it's sealant. not exactly nice stuff though.
Xylene is cellulose thinners, right? I'll give that a go next time I'm near some. Nail varnish remover didn't touch it.
Hairdryer!!!!
Cooking oil is worth a go.

I'd send the seller a polite message saying it's not a problem at all but did he know what the stuff on the rim is? That you are only asking as knowing for sure will help you find the right solvent to use.
Thanks for all your suggestions, it looks like soaking it in soapy water for a couple of hours is softening it in a way that none of the solvents I tried did, at least I can pick it off with a fingernail now.
Sounds like lasagne
Make a paste from fullers earth, bovril and ghee, masticate and apply with a damp cloth, leave in a damp cellar for two full moons. Then remove with a dremel and grinding disc.
Lashings of sudocrem should sort it, probably.
