Formula B4 brakes, rear brake set up. Lever has an annoying problem that it doesn't return fully when released, and this causes the pads to bind against the disc. It can though be pushed away back into it's fully released position, and this frees up the pads.

My thoughts are a problem in the lever itself, rather than a caliper problem. Pads are relatively new, but the problem was evident before the pad change.

Anyone suggest what else I should be considering or doing? Not a big problem, just an annoyance.

Common problem with some of the earlier oro's, so might be the same thing in your b4's.
If you get a lever rebulid kit, you'll probably notice there's a difference between the new & the old.

I've got a couple of spare levers knocking around, bought some second hand B4s from the forum over the last year or so, so I might do a lever change and see what happens.

How difficult is it to rebuild the lever?

They're easy enough, just a bit fiddly!
You'll need to bleed it up after as well obviously.

Got the same issue with a Hope Mono Mini, does that need a rebuild?

I've found with mono mini's it's often just the brass pivot insert leeds lubricating on in the lever, give it a quick squirt & all should be good again.

Be careful where you squirt the lube too, some types will attack the seals if it gets on them.

Some of the older Formulas had a plastic piston in the lever assembly, which over time swells and starts to stick ( Had this problem on an old set of K18's) the replacement piston kit had a metal piston which sorted the problem 8)

Fair enoufh, I'll try one of the spare levers I have in the shed, if that doesn't make a difference then I'll get the lever service kits and try those.

In the end if I can't solve the problem, sounds like a good excuse for some new brakes ๐Ÿ˜‰
