The headtube on my medium trance x measures 143mm and my hope stem is 42mm. New forks I'm looking to buy have a steerer of 183 😕

I'd steer clear (pun intended)
You could swap to an FSA stem (or similar) with a 35mm stack height but depending on the headset height, i'd steer clear to be safe (unless the fork is local and you can try before you buy).

220mm Steerer minimum
The trance has a integrated or semi headset so basically sits flush, wasn't going to use spacers anyway. Still a no-go?
Whats the steerer length of your old forks?? Seems tight.
Well you've got 182mm of steerer and 185mm minimum of stack, not including the HS which will add a couple of mm either side I'd say even if it is flat.
Would well be needing some new forks there
It's a new frame so haven't had forks on it before.
