Any local woods etc that are very close by (other than Kielder!)?

You're right near some of the best trails in Britain.

There's a great guidebook to the area available, will try and post a link later.
Bewick moor is ace, couple of superb loops from Wooller too.
The ride over to Lindesfarne is damn good fun as well.

Sure some of the locals will be along shortly with details ๐Ÿ™‚

The Castle is well worth a visit, loads to see.

...+1 re checking out the castle. Allegedly one of the most haunted in the country, death pits, torture the lot!

As above, on the doorstep, explore the bridleways on Bewick Moor. Loads of stuff in the Cheviots, starting from Wooler, Ilderton or Ingram probably easiest (and nice lanes on way there if you want). From any of them, the world (or the Cheviots) is your oyster. Loop around any of the bridleways west as far as Hownam and back or south to Alwinton. Or both if you're after a long day. Basically get an OS and explore. All these areas are good in the dry. If it's damp (quite possible at the moment) Thrunton offers a bit more cover and there are some short tracks in the FC plantation on Wooler Common. Great road riding anywhere in the area too if you swing that way. Oh, and make sure you get around the Wild Cattle Park, and the torture chamber of the castle is pretty mind expanding.

drive up ingram or coquetdale valley, very nice indeed. My grandparents used to farm the farm called greensidehill if you go up ingram

Why not buy a map? You'll be amazed at what's around you.
