Go to the Strava website, find the segment, and then you can get it to 'refresh results'

He's a much radder rider than me, and it's the shitest segment in the area, but it should be mine godamit!

Make ride private and then public.
Go to the ride in question, click on the spanner on left hand side of screen, select private and then public.

Does it matter ? Were you both on identical bikes, at the same time, using the sameGPS device?
If so then you are more awesome
