[#3815074]

As above , started commuting when shifts allow . Its 12.5 miles each way and on a 15" Prince Albert Is ok but cant help feeling I will fall out of love with the bike If I dont buy a specific road / commuter bike. My wifes c2w scheme has just started and looking at a Road bike probably not more than £450 tops.

So whats good value and where from ?, the scheme is through cyclescheme.co.uk .

I know its a really boring question but any help is appreciated.

If the commute has no monster hills look for a SS cross bike. Crossers are good road bikes for MTBers, and being SS you will save money on the gears and get better bits elsewhere.

Hopefully Mark at Thebikechain will post up. They're doing a Merida one at £500 which looks tempting. However, I'd echo the CX comments - I use a Cube CX bike day in day out for everything and love it.

It's unlikely that Mark will assist in defrauding Cyclescheme and HMRC.

Thanks for the advice , I had no intention of getting Mark from tbc to defraud the government . I appreciate the advice on cross bikes but Tbh cant see the point in having one with two mountain bikes already . I would like to occasional go out with some Roadie guys from work and would be left behind on a cross bike.
looking at Specialized Allez or even one of these also like the look of the decathlon btwin , even the £299 one look alright for a first foray into the darkside.

I got an old Allez and love it, for a road commute you want a road bike!!

Do you need to carry anything or can you pre place stuff at work? if all you need is water then a nice bike with no consideration for a rack.

Something from Cube or Specialized should be good.

You also want gears!!

No just carry a small camelbak with tube , levers etc. I'll put bottle cages on the frame mounts.

Cube peloton at £679 or a Merida 77 at £499. Pretty sure they do one at £449 as well with an alloy fork. Will check later when I get in.

Got a 77 on display should you wish to have a shot.
