Can anyone please enlighten me as to whether "Stan" puts the rubber Rimstrips in the kit as a f*&k!$g joke?
I have just spent the best part of four hours trying to seat a Kenda Nevegal onto a Crest Rim however every time i inflate the tyre (must be on inflation number 20 by now) there is rubber Rimstrip trapped between the tyre and the rim in various places.
I have followed "Stans" advice word for word to know avail.
Does anyone use the Rimstrips (if so how)? Or do i just bin the Rimstrips and go tape only?
Tape
Yellow tape only, why would you use a rimstrip on a Stans rim?
Thanks for the responses, tape it is! Should be able to get this completed by first light at this rate lol!

Stans advice:
"What do I need to run a Stan's rim tubeless i.e rim tape, rim strip?
All our rims need are our yellow tape (21mm for Olympic, Alpine & Alpha 25mm for all others) a Universal Valve Stem (35mm for MTN and 44mm for road) and of course Stan's Sealant."
"Stans ZTR, Size 26, Model Crest
NoTubes Rim Strip: NONE"
Acknowledged Northwind, obviously not quite word for word, however that brings me to my next question; Inflation, possible with a Track Pump or do i need to take a trip to the local Garage?
Track pump has always worked for me, with little effort.
The inflators at garages tend not to push very much air anyway... Decent track pump ought to do the job. (If you don't already have one, I always recommend the Blackburn Air Tower 2- it's built like something that fell out of a cracker but, it's much higher volume than most pumps, delivers almost exactly twice as much air as my Joe Blow frinstance. Which makes things MUCH easier.
If you find it tricky, then what you can do with the tape is take the valve out and fit the tyre with a tube. Then, unbead the tyre from one side only (careful!) and remove the tube, refit the valve, pop the tyre fully back on, and inflate- basically means you only have to seat half the tyre.
I don't know if it's still the case but I could never get there non-tubeless tires (kenda) to tubeless up. Stan's no tubes list what works and doesn't from memory. I have not used it but lyzane make a high volume floor pump.
Thanks for the advice NW. I managed to get the front and rear inflated by using a tube first to get the tyre on the bead on one side (i have an Air Tower 3 and was struggling prior to using this technique). So job done..........................or so i thought.
However after finishing both wheels the front wheel developed an annoying rattle!!! I took the tyre back off, inspected the rim and tyre and found that there is a piece of metal that appears to have come away from the rear of the seam/join on the rim itself and is rattling about (i have researched and found that i am not the only person to have experienced this with Crests). Will look at getting that sorted (either contact manafacturer or attempt a repair) and then redo.
Shouldn't be such a mission the second time round.............he says!
Cheers.
Slinky, following Northwinds advice on the use of tube first to seat the tyre on the bead worked a treat, without which i would still be pumping now no doubt.
FWIW, Slinky, I use mostly kenda tyres and never had any problems getting the standard ones to mount and seal
One of my old Mavics had a similiar rattle, think it was a bit of weld that'd come loose inside the joint or something similiar. Very annoying ๐ Hope you get it sorted!
