Cheaply made hubs with poor sealing so don’t stand up to UK weather then add cheap bearings into the mix and they don’t last long.

By failure mode, I mean do they fill up with muck and go rusty or do they wear and wobble?

Depending on what the problem is, different answers might be appropriate.

The std cream revo bearings are dire. Not even stainless. There stainless ones are silly overpriced
Go straight to kinetic bearings and get a pr of there 6902 rs bearings. Absolute quality
The revo creams feal rough from brand new
