Hi All,

I run a pair of Marathon Plus 28mm on a pair on Crest rims with tubes with no problem but getting the tyres on was fun!
My question is, do you all think that I could go down to a 25mm road tyre or is that getting too narrow as the rims are 24mm or something themselves?

Probably would give a very square shape to the tyre

Thanks Charlie!

So I'm probably looking at a new rim to be built onto disc hubs that will take a narrow road tyre!

Probably... But measure the INTERNAL width first to be sure.

Ye, just got an email back from Notubes and they recommend nothing narrower than 28mm for the Crests so probably on a look out for a good strong narrow disc compatible rim or complete wheel?
Help!
Thanks.

I'm not convinced that chart is correct. An Arch EX rim has an internal width of 21mm and that would suggest nothing wider than a 2" tyre.

I think I'd ask myself whether going 28 > 25mm tyres is going to make enough difference to make it worth spending on a new wheelset. If your roads are as broken up as mine now the springs have sprung under all the roads, you might be grateful of the extra pinch protection and comfort in the long run.

brassneck,

A very good point! But this is a new build and I want to be able to swap wheels with different bikes, some wheels for CX/rigid mountain bike and wheels for keeping up to my road mates so a narrow, disc compatible wheel set wouldn't go amiss.
Any thoughts?

Do they need to be Stans rims? An Open Pro will run a 25mm tyre and a 35mm tyre. You're not really going to find something ideal for 25mm AND 2.1" MTB tyre

druidh, No they don't have to be Stans but open to ideas?

Thanks Druidh, After trying tyres from 23mm to 35mm on rims, I've gone for the all silver Mavic Open Pro, 36 hole with red Hope Pro 2 evo's, (a little touch of gay coming out).

Cheers all.

I've also had my 23mm road , 35mm cross and even 1.8" whatever that is in mm monster cross 29er tyres on open pro rims no problems ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks All, I think I made the right choice in picking the silver ones as I really didn't like the braking surface in plain silver with the black rims but not really a big choice out their at the moment but they are the most versatile and lightest for the job!
