I'm visiting my folks up north and fancy a visit to Stainburn. Not keen on riding uphill due to a slightly heavy bike so i've decided i'm going to just section stuff. So, was wondering whether Stainburn lends itself well to this? Is it super steep? Is it easy to get to the descents and faster singletrack without getting in peoples way?

I don't mind pushing up, but obviousy if the push is 2 hours long then i might have to give it a miss.

Cheers

The black does, lots of sections which warrant a couple of attempts to find the best line. The rest isn't especially hard though the new descents over the road are a bit spicy. Think of it as a big skills area and you'll be about right.

Is it super steep?

no

Yes

It's only small, so push ups are fairly short. Alot of people cycle up the main road to get to the top of the red descent and blue descent as coloured on the map.
It's a great technical XC spot, with lots of little sections to play on. The blue line on the map is the long continuous descent. None of it was designed for Downhill bikes tho. To make the most of it, you really need something that pedals uphill aswell, but plenty of people turn up on big bikes.

Well i have an Intense SS weighing in at about 31lbs so its no lightweight, but the prob with it is that it has a coil shuck so it is quite sluggish.........on the flats and downs its perfect, only on sustained ups does shows its weakness!

You've come to the right place.

The Red loop that comes back to the car park only has a little climbing. Watch out for the techy/loggy line halfway down the bermed section on your second run.

You can push back up the hill to the car park to get back to the road or Red route to have another bash at the Descent Line.

You could easily lose the whole two hours plucking up the courage to ride everything on the WBT black route.

And if you've any energy left you can cross the road and ride around Norwood on the other side of the road. There are one or two steep old lines off either side of the crag. And a techy traverse across the base of it.

Enjoy & good luck
