i have some roval slx24 wheels and have been advised not to use the plugs that come with the wheels but use a rim strip. I bought stains no tube cross country kit but have discovered that the 17-21mm refers to external rim width. My wheels are 20mm internal and 23.5mm external, should I replace my kit with the ‘standard’ kit. Thanks

Are you sure the rims are not tubeless ready, in which case you need rim tape not a strip?

Road wheels? Not entirely sure if it's the same but for my rovals I've always used tape. Rim strips are mostly for converting nontubeless wheels. I think the roval bungs are pretty well regarded though, first time I've heard people recommend against it.

So does that mean that all I need is bungs, valve, tyre and sealant. And if the bungs don’t work, what width tape should I get for a 20mm internal rim. Thanks

Ok, I’ve used the bungs to cover the spoke holes, fitted the valve, put the tyre on with soapy water and inflated with a co2 canister. Tyre went straight up but there were no popping sounds to indicate that the bead was in place. Then let the air out to put sealant in through valve and bead cam away from rim. Pumped in 60cc and pumped up with a track pump to 70 psi and still no clicks or pops. Spun wheel around and left for a couple of hours and is still holding pressure. Have I done it right, concerned about lack of popping ? Thanks
