[#2473910]

Hopefully an 09 st4 frame on its way to me.

What type of front mech do I need?

Also think I've read that rear mech cable runs under the bb? If so how long should this section of outer cable be?

Is there much difference when running forks at 120mm and 130mm travel?

TIA

Hi Granny_Ring,

All down to the wether the geometry allows it, however I would imagine the difference is negliagable. But aint the ST4 a 100mm travel bike ?.

Cheers
Kev

100mm rear 120mm front is the norm. 130mm would maybes make it feel a bit unbalanced

I've got an 08 and the cable routing for the rear mech does run under the BB, that bit of outer is about 30cm from memory, but don't take my word for it. I plan to run full-length outer and mirror the rear brake routing along the top tube and onto the swingarm with some stick-on cable guides.

You'll need a top-pull front mech. Can't remember what diameter clamp - see the Orange website ๐Ÿ™‚

Have run mine with 130mm (Fox Float standard QR) and 120mm (Fox F120 QR15) and 100 (standard fit Recons) - moving up from 100 is well worth it, but can't say I noticed a great deal of difference in the geometry between 120 & 130 - the increased stiffness of the QR15 was noticeable though. 130 was good, not unbalanced - the 100mm at the rear feels more than 100mm.

Have fun - great bike!

Which clamp type for front mech? Will probably be deore or slx. THIS or THIS or doesn't it matter?

09er here too, top swing (low clamp) f mech, though a bit of cow making this work (elegantly) with a double and bash. 100-130mm revs, feels spot on at a bit over 120. Much more seems a bit floppy, but for faster more down type stuff prob ok. Enjoy....!
oh and f mech routing along tt...

Cheers Mr, think I've got a high clamp mech in the spares box so wondered if that would work.

Frame has arrived ๐Ÿ™‚

Rear mech cable guides are for a complete cable run, guess I can make adjustments for the section under the bb more easily?

Front mech cable run is along the down tube and under bb I think up to the mech so what type of mech will I need, totally confused now with front mechs lol?

Cant wait to build it up now ๐Ÿ™‚

TIA
