I'm spending a week in St David's, Pembrokeshire in August. It's a family holiday but I'll be able to take a couple of days biking. Is there decent off roading in them thar parts, or should I take the road bike?
Not much local stuff but there's a half decent ride over the Preselli hills (obvious looking at a map). For a trail centre day trip you can get up to Nant yr Arian or over to Brechfa relatively easily.
Road biking might be the way to go (although not my cup of tea) as they had the Tour or Pembrokeshire recently that looked a pretty tough route and went through St Davids and Fishguard.
Thanks for the advice. I'll probably bung the road bike on the car.
Cheers,
Hugh
Leave the bikes at home and learn to surf / kayak.
There's a nice beach to do some RADSIK WIKID SKIDZZ on. ๐

There was a Preselis route guide a couple of mags ago, but it needs to be dry to be much fun. It isn't very dry just now....
Heres the ToP routes, decent road rides, or if you've a cross bike, do the route up to the Preselis, then the ridge ride.

Only decent off roading is either on the Preselis or nearby Carn Ingli. Some cheeky trail fun can be had on coast path over winter but may be a bit crowded over in August.
Road rides are good if you go along the coast road from St Davids towards Fishguard/Goodwick then onto to Newport. Its then a great ride on a sunny day over towards the Gwaun valley (make sure you go to Bessies pub if you do).
Other option is Brechfa or up towards Camarthen.
EDIT: Just seen the link for the tour of Pembs and realised its the same as the route I've described.
sss is that whitesand bay? I was in that very spot on Thursday, nice off shore wind and the surfers having fun. OP I always take a bike and at this time of year. Beach in the day hit the hills in the evening, even if its only a couple of hours and a lovely sunset.
lovely part of the world - pop in to see the guys at TYF & get your kayak on.
Tang it is yes.
Used to go there on holiday every year when i was a kid.
Went back there last year on the way back from the ferry port in fishguard.
Still as loverly as I remembered it being. ๐

sss almost the same spot!
We had a great time last week. Hot sun, mad wind and rain, swimming & hills!
Yep. I was there last week, we own one of the old statics in the field on the right just before the car park. Been going since I was born...
"lovely part of the world - pop in to see the guys at TYF & get your kayak on" As john l says. We did the sea kayaking with those guys and it was great. St Davids is fab' but not great for mtb.
As above Brechfa is close enough for a day trip (and worth it)

That's where I used to stop as a kid.
Grandparents also owned a static there.
Half way down on the left hand side.
I got engaged to Mrs Weeksy on Whitesands beach. Several pics of it around my house. Mrs Weeksys parents live there. I can honestly say i've never felt a desire to MTB around the area... nothing really appeals in all honesty.
It's quite flat... quite boggy and quite 'open'.
