SSUK 2013.... Single speed UK championships.

Grabbing the bull by its great big beefy balls and running with it... Want to get things nailed down. So without the ok from British cycling, the UCI (aren't they a cinema?) and the stw forum mafia.... Here is SSUK 2013.

Previously I have offered to run SSUK, on a somewhat basic basis, Avoiding all the costs, hassles, and troubles... near the seaside and a really great pub. Striped back to campsite, pub instead of marquee, pub gig instead of roller racing, fish and chips instead of powerbars, off road sportive format rather than official race, no entry fees, no insurance, no medics, no marshalls. no gears, no fuss. (No moaning from northerners that the "Race" is nearer France than glorious Macclesfield )

Unless someone tells me to stop. It's the last weekend of May 2013
25/26/27th May 2013
Bank holiday weekend
Friday eve... Pub
Saturday... Ride, beach party, " special cycling event". fish and chips.
Sunday... The "race thing" and pastys and rural pub gig
Monday... take it easy,

This will be the "race thing" HQ and finish line

Woodyhyde isn't far or there are plenty of small farmer style sites in worth. Shame you couldn't get it sorted this year as ssuk2012.

There is a campsite Insight of the square.... Looks like a field most of the time, because it is.

I may have to rebuild one of my bikes as SS for this.

Will you make/mark the course?

And will it include some silly beach riding ๐Ÿ™‚

Sam there is a race, it is a race, we will be racing... But don't tell anyone with a clip board.

You see they are running (they being wiggle) an offload sportive on public rights of way. You are not allowed to race on briddlepaths ( horse and feet, yes, bikes, no). Wiggle give you a good medal for finishing within a certain time, folk "race" for the medals. We will award a medal to anyone who finishes within a certain time, that time will be decided once someone has finished. Loop hole. Reliability trial... Sportive, Whatever

Stickers... Certainly
Course... Lightly marked on the ground, with a photocopy map with the route. A bit of map reading may be required.
I think it will be two laps, at around 12 miles each, allowing all the one lap chaps to be at the pub finish line in time for the winners.

Good job. A move away from the try hardery of postcard entries that come to nothing and back to the basics. Thanks.

Charlie this sounds like a great idea, I'm sure you would benefit from hosting a 'test event' over the weekend of the 29 & 30 of September.

Sp... Nice idea but I am saddle tramping in France on that weekend now... Ferry booked, cork screw packed.

It's looking like a 8 mile ride to the start bankers arms beer garden, studland)
12 more miles brings you to the end of the first lap. Via a few hills, a castle and a cake shop.
Tough two lap chaps will have a further 20 miles.
Possibly 6000 feet of climbing!
I might strava it and see what the stats are.

PS God bless yer Charlie for all your services to SSing and I'm thinking in particular of your sponsoring the SS prize at Brownbacks here.

Do we not have to paint a picture or hand craft a sculpture something to be even considered for an entry? ๐Ÿ˜†

Sounds like a bit of a laugh and I've never riden down that way before so you can count me in as long as Ringo's dog can come.

Brilliant. Opportunity to make it into a fun family weekend with the wife and kids, do some of the riding and drink some beer. And all within a civilised journey from home.

Sounds interesting, although it really isn't that hard to organise a proper event. Nothing wrong with paying for an entry fee so long as you get your moneys worth IMO.
