Nice one Charlie.

I had a good time. My wife had a good time. Chip, my 8 week old had great time. My Brother in law (first time one a singly) had a good time - and thanks for lending him a helmet! His wife had a good time - and so did their one year old daughter.

All good.

Del - I still owe you a pint......

Yep, a cracking excursion the only downer being that I remained in a state of near sobriety for the weekend and that most of my photos were crap as I had some sticky gunk on the lens that I didn't notice until I got home.

Here's a couple that didn't come off too badly...

Nice to meet Oxymoron & the Quantock crew as well as lots of others whose forum names I don't know.

Thanks to Charlie & the crew for organising it and special thanks to Mr & Mrs MTQG for folding up my tent for me when I was meant to be the one showing them how it's done.....

What a cracker! Weather, campsite, pig and egg van, fire, trails, people, booze, pubs... all absolutely bloody brilliant.

Thanks Charlie, thanks everyone!

Some photos. Bit of an odd mix, cos I forgot the memory card and I was juggling with the small built in memory.

I was getting singlespeed Krampus envy all weekend, so I've just converted mine using the prototype Middleburn oval ring courtesy of Taz ๐Ÿ˜€

A really great video from the weekend.

Witness the bendy wheel, wonder at the slow long bastard climbs, be dazzled by crashes and daring deeds... And pub stops.

"Don't be a dick". That's a recipe for life right there. ๐Ÿ˜†

The Cocks didn't know about the Saturday ride so went on an extended drinking session instead. That meant we were all a bit faded for Sunday and mostly dispersed after the ride. Will try harder to integrate next time.

Thx for everyone who shouted an 'Up the Cocks!'.

Purbeck is a tough place to be a singlespeeder.

Yes awesome weekend and weather, relaxed race type thing on Sunday makes a nice change from the more serious racing of the year..

Cheers Charlie, we managed to clock up 225 miles in totals although Stu and I didn't ride ALL the way home in the end, got the train from Southampton..Same again next year, should be a good canal mission.

Not promising anything concrete.

But the event went so damned well, so next year... same place, same date, same weather, different route, different title.
I've run out of poets so same poet or no poet.

Maybe the intergalactic Dorset independent onegear trial (IDIOT).

Ideas.
I Might have the locals who know the route wear bikemonger shirts so folk can follow them to make navigation easier.
Replace the long hill climb race with a technical see who can get furthest hill climb.
Any other suggestions are welcome?

Have us one-geared-weirdies climb up from Woodhyde farm, under the railway, then up the really technical rocky BW, finishing at, oooh, the Square and Compass!

Definately want to do it again. Highlight of the year for us, we are going back to California Barn to stay for a few days next week as we loved the area so much.
Not bothered what the course is like but the format of the event was perfect. Sme thing with a different name fine by me. Only change I'd suggest is maybe getting a Square & Compass pastie voucher instead of hog roast?

Charlie I'd say take a rest and come back in a couple of years, let's try other parts of the country, and give yourself a break too, let someone else do the lifting.

Surrey would make a great venue riding wise, we have masses of trails and it's perfect for SS, a bit more forested rolling XC than the big ups big downs of Purbeck. The problem I can't find an answer for is this is stockbroker belt not an area that depends on tourism, so there is almost no camping.

BTW it's a nice time for a family holiday for anyone with pre-school kids. We rented a house in Poole and after Monday had the beaches and attractions to ourselves.

Matt it's not a big deal to organise again.
I'm not talking about doing SSUK again, that went to taz in Birmingham for 2014.
Surrey is cool, I grew up just over the border in Alton, used to ride frencham and devils punch bowl area. Get a plan together, have a word with taz and let's go to Surrey in 2015.

I'll chat to my crew and have a think about it, accommodation and venues are the issue, and they'll be busy on a bank holiday anyway round here so probably disinclined to go an extra mile.

There's no shortage of good riding though, including some fun purpose-built bike trails, and access by road and rail is good.

Our patch is Surrey Hills http://www.surreyhills.org/

Matt,

How about this place?

Etherley Farm

Looks fairly similar to California Barn (but with showers) and is right on the trails.
Further investigation required, methinks.

I'd definitely be up for a return to Daaaarzet in 2014 ๐Ÿ˜€

And .. hmmmm ... a Surrey Hills SSUK in 2015 ... I'm sure we could find a farm with a spare field and a couple of Portaloos

Not 'my side' of the hill but good job. There are pubs over that side too, tho I don't know them.

Kings Head at Holmbury are usually cool with us despite being covered in filfth and may be affable to being a 'venue'. Nice rear garden. They're certainly who I'd ask first.

Mark me down for a couple of spots at IDIOT Club 2014 and SSUrreyhillsK 2015.

I might have taken the other 26 gears off mrs. rapier's bike by then, too!
