So,
Who's in?
What gear are you running?
And the all important question of what tyres are you running?

I'm in. If it's as good as FOD or Belgium, it'll do nicely.

Gear, depends on which bike. Tyres, the same and t' weather.

Yep coming.

trying 34x18 this time (over 42x18 at FOD) so slower on the flat and coasting downhills this time, but able to ride uphill when stuck behind a load of slowbies.

Got some WTB Bronsons to play with, on board in flight whisky catered for. I am told that Surly KM forks are a tad stiff, so 2.2 tyres and malt whisky should take the edge off things. ๐Ÿ˜€

If anyone's missed their chance for an entry, send an email to info@ssuk2011.com

We've had all 250 entries, but I'll be going through cancellations/payment failures/glitches etc. tomorrow so a few more spots may open up.

The course may have a certain amount of brutality to it. More info on the first week of September, so you'll have plenty of time to switch tyres.

I built a SS from bits n bobs i had lying around, and to say its naff is an understatement! But it'll do. 32:16 i think, and trailrakers if it rains.

The hardest part is deciding whether to take beer or cider...

Wish I'd thought of that 2 weeks ago: went to sign up, no places left. Then didn't have an excuse not to work that weekend. Bah!

In with 32:16 and some type of Maxxis tyres ( tubeless )
Haven't decided on body armour yet or the full face lid.

Charlie, if i can get my monkey close to the weight of your SIR9 i shall be a happy bunny. I might be wrong getting sunstroke and all that but is your 9 set up with 33x17 as i recall it went uphill quite well, well better than i can go uphill on a strange bike.

Aidan, this brutal bit, are we talking brutal like the fort william world cup downhill track, or brutal like lots of climbing in 30o heat ๐Ÿ™‚

I do hope it's going to be less gnarly than the Quantocks, I can't afford to keep exploding my wheels after Ireland's nucular incident with my rear wheel.

Sparkle & Son will be in attendance. Hopefully the Tandem of Doom will be dredged from a skip and beaten into some form of useablity. No doubt the Lancashire Contingent will be showing the Yorkies how to drink. Again. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Either a try hard racer bike with superlight rubber and a 34:19 rotor q ring set up or a drunken monkey mongo bike with mentally heavy tyres silly forks and bars and a nice low ratio so tha my absinthe mangled brain can cope with pedalling to the beer stop.

Still to decide if it's skin suit and racey or slow and pukey, depends which one falls into the hearse on the friday mornin

I'll be there, on this:

[img] [/img]

I'll be using 32:18 (it's a 29er, so that's 32:16 in 26" speak), as it's what's on there, the same gear as I used for a singlespeed South Downs Double, which I carefully chose using the exact same "what's on the bike" criteria ๐Ÿ˜‰

Aouch!

That sucks - I had meant that I was going to email Aiden to see if he had a reserve list he would like to offer my place to. I never expected, or asked for, a refund and sold my place to dave360 off of here - for a discount as I figured if he hadn't asked for it I wouldn't have got anything.

I hope Aiden's experience doesn't put him, or others, off organising events in future. People willing to put their time and effort into organising events for us to ride in/at deserve support and appreciation, not abusive emails for the sake of a few quid!

Do people actually think that SSUK is some mega-corp with someone permanently poised at a keyboard?!

p.s. dave360 - if you're reading this, I hope you enjoyed it and drank my share of the beer ๐Ÿ™‚

Great event shame that Aiden offered any refunds at all he was too kind

Asking for a refund just because the weather looks a bit dodgy etc is a bit ..........

All I can say is the event was better for those types not turning up

I guess when they realised there wasn't a 10 storey marquee etc etc they thought it wouldn't be a good event !

Wrong but hey don't tell em cos I'm happier if they don't come

I cancelled and asked for a refund, but didn't expect one. New job meant I had to cancel at last minute - I was gutted not to go. I spent whole weekend being pissed off and resenting work.

All I can say is the event was better for those types not turning up

Hmmm...I can't have been only one with a genuine reason?
