I currently own a giant defy composite 1 with ultegra compact.. it has an 11-28 cassette on it and also has a med/long cage as opposed to the short cage that it was supplied with.. im finding that on a lot of hills im in want of another gear to drop down too( im not superfit and the climbs are quite long). would a sram 11-32 rear cassette be compatible? 😕

yes but make sure you change the chain at the same time as the chain and cassette will wear at the same rate. I'd recommend a SRAM chain too as they are definitely shimano/sram compatible whereas I can't remember for Shimano.
