I've acquired a lightly used pre direct mount XX drivetrain from a bike I've stripped down. Can I use the cassette with my XT 12S kit or does it only really work used complete? (which I could do and run it into the ground but is a bit more hassle. Does it need a specific chainring as well? would go on an e-bike so the crankset is no use.

It all works together. Sram and shimano are same pull ratio and spacing.
