So it appears I need a new chainring for my 11 speed x1 chain set but £70....
seems expensive.
Anything else that will fit a bit cheaper...?

Steel ones are (were) much cheaper. Raceface are about £45 and I'm sure superstar are doing them now too as are uberbike

I'm guessing that with a boost rear axle I need a 6mm offset is that right?

Quite a few on Chain Reaction. Make sure you get the right offset.

Just make sure it's for a SRAM direct mount. It should tell you in the details. We have SRAM, Chromag, N.S. Billet and One Up. Nothing to tell the difference between them. Depending on the bike and cranks we have 6,3 and zero offset ones fittted
