I'm building a hardtail for my 13yo son, and I'm looking to use some old parts I have lying about.
I'm looking to use a SRAM x4 derailleur with a Shimano 7 speed cassette and shifter, but it doesn't want to go through all the gears as normal.
It'll do the 11 and 13, then it needs 2 clicks to get up to the next sprocket, and it never reaches the big sprocket. I've set it up ok it seems, H and L settings fine and the derailleur isn't bent.
The SRAM X4 came from an 8 speed cassette, will that make a difference? Is it maybe made for an 8/9 speed set up?
Cheers in advance for any input. ๐
Sram X* uses a 1:1 direct pull ratio whereas Shimano use a 2:1 ratio.
You cannot get them to play together.
You either need a Sram X* shifter or a Shimano mech.
Both need to match their shifter to the number of cassette sprockets.
