[#3198495]

Trying to work out bes way to get a low gear on the cross bike. I assume sram x7 mech will work with rival double tap shifters.

Will the 10 spd rival shifters work with a med cage 9 spd mech or only with a 10 spd x7 mech

ta

SRAM 10 speed stuff is cross compatible. 9 speed is different.

So you can use the Rival shifters with the 10 speed X.7 mech, but not a 9 speed one.

No, you need an MTB mech to do the 36.

Could you just get a smaller double chainset? Maybe like a Middleburn Duo?

its for a new build and toying with eiterh 34-50 sram chainse tthat i have enarly new and going for a 32t out back but noticed teh 1030 11-36 cassette that is steel cogs on alu carrier that i think should last reall well

or change the chaniset ot an x5 double on 28 42 and buy a tiagra 12-30 cassette to run with the med cage rival mech i have. just worried that 42 12 will be a bit small on the road sometimes.

hopefully sram will bring out an 11-32 1030 cassette soon

You mean like most cassettes ๐Ÿ˜•

42-12 top gear is not high on the road at all, IMO you'd spin that out annoyingly easily and spend all your time at the top of the block. 28-30 is also a fair bit lower than 34-32. If you went for the 28/42 chainset you'd definitely want an 11-up cassette I'd say, but even then I'd not choose it.

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Assuming this is a normal road bike are you worried 34-32 isn't low enough!?
