A first for me. small twig in wheel then bang! SRAM gx 12 speed mech snapped off the frame. Hanger ok. Chain not damaged, no force on pedals. I must say it’s my first SRAM drivetrain and two weeks ago shifter just blew up, now this. I bought a Shimano shifter now I suppose I’ll buy a Shimano mech.

I had one do the same, 2years old, after hitting a big rock going up the Beast. Luckily I had a spare in the camper, towed and free wheeled to Hope for lunch whilst 18 Bikes fitted it and carried on with the ride.

We've had a few of the NX ones back, not so many GX's, usually crack across the moulding line above the mounting bolt, and very rarely any damage to the hanger. I'm guessing they've been subject to some sort of impact that's enough to expose that weak point before the hanger bends.

I've cursed myself it seems! Been saying for years that all my GX Eagle mechs have been problem free! Today the chain came off the bottom jockey wheel and got wedged!

I caught it without putting any pressure on the pedals and put it back on, but now the chain won't stay on the top jockey wheel (comes off when I backpedal slightly).

Probably twisted the cage on it, but I've been waiting for an excuse to try Shimano 12 speed 🙂

In fairness, most of the broken ones were mail order bikes, and since we've heavily beefed up the packing around the mech (not had problems previously, mind), the breakages have disappeared.

To be fair it's the first I've done in 30+ years of riding trails.

Sram shifters have had a self destruct mode for years, considering the top end prices compared to XT & XTR shifters it's just embarrassing.
