I am looking at up grading the SRAM X.9 on my bike to an X.9.
Can anyone advise what the different cage lengths refer to? Will all fit and work fine on a 27 speed MTB???

I'm not sure how much of an upgrade X9 to X9 is?? 😀 😕 But you will need a long cage for 27 speed? Some will say you can get away with a medium, but long would be best....hope that helps.

Same cage length 'rules' apply to all types of rear mech regardless of make.
Medium or long cage will work on 27-speed.

Thanks. If only I had the excuse of the 5 being near to the 9 on my keyboard, but my laptop doesn't look like that .....
