[#4349170]

I'm no weed, but after four days I couldn't use the front mech because shifting was so hard. Anyone else had this?
The shifter seems to need a massive shift, so I tightened the cable which did shorten the shift, but made it very very stiff.

I'm going to have a good look at it soon, but the massive shift, about 50mm to make it click seems ridiculous.

The rear mech shifter is very sweet though.

Sticky cables? Clean out the cables and shifter with some GT85 or similar

Cables probably.

I've run X9 shifters for years and they're pretty reliable, but as with Shimano, it's worth giving the cables a once over every now and again.

My front mech isn't a full length outer so it tends to stiffen over time. I don't really notice as it's a gradual process, but it gets to a similar state to the OP's before I either strip and service or replace the cables.

I'm assuming you're on about road shifters. Are you sure the cable is routed/clamped into the front mech correctly? It should just go straight in behine the bolt like this:

I need to check that.
I do manual work, and tour riders change gear for weeks, but after four days and 550 miles my finger tips couldn't operate the shifter.
