Ok so following on from this
https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/when-gx-eagle-wears-you-really-know-about-it/
and that the fact that i think my new 12 speed gx is rubbish compared to my 5 year old XT 10 speed
i was having a chat with a mate last night who has bought 3 chains for his eagle ox 12 speed. Hes thinking its best to rotate these around to keep it going.
So im thinking run 1 maybe 2 chains and the whole thing into the ground. what are others thoughts?
I agree, I think it is rubbish too.
I've got friends who run it who love it but I've had nowt but issues.
Snapped a chain on the first ride (not split link)- two plates just literally peeled apart under a sprint out of a corner.
I've had the jump into the gap happen for the chain and jockey wheel.
I've had jockey wheel bearings last less than a week.
My chain is well worn after 600 miles each time.
I'm going back to shimano 11 speed (xtr mech with XT shifter) and mating it with a hope 11-48t cassette. Not quite the same range but should be 50x more reliable and rhobust).
On a plus not- I'm going to put mine on the wifes bike as she is currently 2x set up and can't seem to operate her front mech without getting stressed out- she only rides 2x a year!
Sounds like a lot of faff.
I'll just continue to do the same as I have with XX1 11spd for the last 4 years, which is basically nothing. Change a chain when I remember (don't even own a chain checker).
I'm not downgrading back to Shimano any time soon, with boat anchor cassettes which wear out multiple times faster. Absolute worst case scenario if the rear mech's do prove to be unreliable (which they haven't yet for me on 2 bikes), new XTR mechs are compatible with Eagle, the big if being reliability in their case.
I wonder if 12 speed XTR will be any more reliable? I see Bird are offering XTR shifter, chain and mech but with the Sunrace 11-50 cassette on the Zero29. I guess that keeps the cost down - quite an attractive alternative to Eagle 12 speed based on these threads (for me anyway).

my new 11 speed nx is also rubbish compared to my 7 year old XT 9 speed
I’m running xx1 and x01 with only one issue in the past 3 years. Cassettes last well as do chains.
Can’t understand your issues.
