Can't decide whether to buy a UT chainset and take the plunge anyone wish they hadn't bothered and gone back to square taper.
I have two Veloce UT chainsets, one compact one normal double (both alloy). The centre bolt that holds the thing together constantly comes loose unless you use Loctite on the threads (I've heard other people having this problem too). Also, on my compact cranks, the integrated pedal washers have become separated from the arms - somehow the hole is too small to simply slide over the pedal threads (pedals thread on fine normally, but with the washers separate there's not enough leverage so it's tricky), so I had to file out the hole to allow me to swap pedals. Not a major hassle but a PITA considering Campag's usual good quality.
OTOH, I love square taper (I have two sets of Middleburns and some Dura Ace track cranks), and unless you really need that extra stiffness there's no reason not to keep rocking the square.
I have Chorus UT and 2 Centaur UT (one carbon) and they've been fine. I was just annoyed with the Record square taper BB I had in 05 completely disintegrating within 10K miles.
square although bb choice is a bit rubbish nowadays if you change to external bearing set up facing add to the costs
the campag 102mm BB's persistently failed me
UT (centaur/ chorus)seems to be going well and is serviceable and stiffer
Have two UT Veloce chainsets. One compact, one non-compact. Both have done ~7kmiles each. No problems at all.
Bearing lifetime seems excellent, especially when compared to Shimano HT2 road BBs I've had. Cost of replacing these bearings is cheaper than HT2 or even square taper. Word of warning; get the actual campag bearings, as non-campag ones with the same ID aren't in fact the same. Campag ones are narrower, as they are a custom bearing with only a single seal on the inner side. Mute point anyway, as to get similar smoothness you'd have to spend similar amounts of cash on a pair of SKF.
JoeNation - Sorry to hear about your pedal washer issues. As for the centre bolt coming undone, it sounds like you need to have the BB refaced, as this is a common symptom of non-parallel faces.
