[#1067793]

Just taken delivery of my Spesh Demo 8 and it currently has a Fox DHX 4.0 shock with 350 x 2.80 spring. Now i'm 17st and this spring clearly isn't big/strong enough!

I'm trying to work out what spring I actually need but as i'm new into it after quite some time out I can't seem to work out what spring I need? Can anyone help me out? All advice (except loose weight fatboy!) appreciated.

P.s
I have seen a 500x2.3 fox spring? Is this what I need?

Try the spring calculator on the TF Tuned site.

http://www.tftunedshox.com/info/spring_calculator.aspx

It also explains the numbers on your spring and what they mean

You need a 2.8 length spring for your shock but the weight (the 350 on your fitted spring) needs to go up.

yeah saw that but not sure

Is 2.8 the stroke? If not where do I find that.

Also, wheel travel I assume is the travel on the bike (8" I think) and not the wheel size (stupid question I think but wanna check.

Yup, wheel travel is the amount of suspension you've got so 8" on your Demo 8.

The 2.8 (actually 2.75 but Fox numbers are a bit odd) is the shock travel

Running through the calculator, it suggest you need a 550 or 600 x 2.8 spring.

Try phoning TF Tuned, they're great and really helpful. They stock the Fox springs but sometimes have second hand springs in. I got one a couple of years ago for a tenner.

these def fit DHX fine and are half the price of Fox and in my experience better quality.

Thats interesting GW thanks.

Defo no issues with fit etc? Assume I just get 2.75 x 600 on those ones?

I have a dhx4.0 on my coiler deluxe, weigh 18.5st and IIRC it is a 800, it is spot on and needs very little pre-load.

GW - why is it "totally" irrelavent?? I have a dhx4.0 shock and I'm a big lad, the OP was looking for advice?

ok, i bought the manitou sping recomended above. Tried to fit it tonight and its too long? Bought 2.75 x 600 and its much bigger. No way i'm getting that on so sending it back and back to the drawing board. Anywhere else cheaper I can buy the spring I need?

What are the numbers on your original spring?

Mate you are best just to call tf tuned or mojo and ask them to sell you one. The three things you need to l know for any spring are the rate usually in lbs per inch, the stroke, which is the length the shocks shaft travels (in thus case 2.75") and the free length which determines whether the spring will fit on your shock.
In my experience it's quite hard to know the free length of a spring because it's rarely published.

scotabroad - your bike had a different amount of travel and length of shock. Spring rate depends on weight and leverage ratio of the suspension.

So your info is totally irrelevant.
