Hi,

I have bought a superstar singlespeed rear hub and am looking to build it with a Mavic XM 317 rim that I already have. I have done the spoke calcs using the DT Swiss spoke length calcalator and the result is 301mm & 296mm. So should I order 300 or 302mm spokes (301 not an option)? Is shorter or longer better - im guessing 300? Cheers

5mm difference from one side to the other sounds a bit extreme!

Usually you have a maximum of 2mm of difference in length from one side to the other. On a proper singlespeed hub, both sides would usually take the same length spokes!

You sure you've done your calculations right?

Yep, those lengths are totally wrong!!! I misunderstood the meaning of "intersections" on the calculator. Its just a normal 26 rim, and I think I have it right now (much shorter) It will be 3 intersections per spoke.

It's first time wheelbuilding for me, and that will probably be the first of many cock-ups but I am doing it to learn...

cheers

I find this easier to use and the book is brilliant.
