I enjoy spinning for pike and perch. Walking up and down the riverbank is a good workout.

Got a spin bike at home - its a good solid ex gym one. Use it when its too nasty out or cant fit a ride in. Just 30mins interval training and I'm kin knackered. Very good work uot, I can see it bit a lot better with a trainer/class.

A few of us have been doing classes as we find it easier to get motivated rather than use the turbo or go out when its really shite ,We just thought we would give it a go and see if we gained from it

Yup- does no harm to do supplement proper biking in the dark months
Quality of the sessions really depends on the instructor

At my gym there are 3 folk "trained"
One does a proper intervals style & sprints
One does loads of silly position changes and fake hills
And the other does daft stuff like taking the seat off
Sprinting and stopping - she's pish !!

As a cyclist a good hill set and done random sprints
Work for me

You could always buy a lumenator light and some wet weather gear - I'd like to bet you'd get more from that than sitting at the back of a class watching girls arses going up and down...oh, hang on...

Depends on the bikes and instructor, the bikes at my old (council run £18/month (inc the pool!) gym were proper fixed gear bikes with stupidly heavy flywheels and good resistance mechanisms. The instructors were sadists and I got very good at sprinting on group rides and managed a 100mile sportive with not much more training than spinning.

The new poncey gym (£70/month inc 6 pools and 3 saunas!) has freewheels, flywheels too small, and the resistance is done with friction and V-brakes/carpet pads. The instructors tailor it to ladies that lunch and fat blokes. Way too much "wobble the bars, lean to the side" crap.

Ride fixed. Find a hill. Ride up, ride down. Repeat...

Where, assuming in SSET, are you spinning Edric? Is Katy your instructor?
