To cut a very long story short I have a 2 year old stumpjumper pro carbon, the rear chainstay developed a crack and the back end flexed far more than was normal, rode bike 4 miles home. Chainstay replaced after some confusion under warranty, meanwhile I found that this had caused wear to the alloy sleeve in the carbon front triangle, this was pointed out to Specialized but dismissed.
Specialized UK have firstly written off the bike without inspection, then 'fixed' the problem after inspection and sent the bike back which did not fix it, then refused to then re inspect the bike writing it off for the second time, offered me an £800 crash replacement which then turned into a £1600 crash replacement, accused me of using the wrong loctite, wrong torque settings. Then said it was not reassembled it properly (they reassembled it) now say it has been ridden hard (frame is virtually immaculate).
All in all their service has been inconsistent and mostly crap. The frame was a warranty replacement for an 07 model where 5 shocks failed! in approx 18 months(the brains failed). I'm now left with a written off carbon frame, a potential £800 bill and all 2 weeks before I leave for Canada for a year. I just tried to ring Specialized US who were unable to help. The bike shop (JE James) have been fantastic pestering and badgering repeatedly but Specialized UK have been a real let down.
Any suggestions as to what to do now, I really cannot afford to shell out on a new frame without selling my hardtail or a kidney!
Unusual. Spesh UK are normally shit hot when it comes to warranty.
Get some proper legal advice would be my advice. If the bile shop support your claim then that's good but any claim you have will be against the retailer.
Have you spoken to Spesh directly
They have been excellent in all the dealings I have had with them
Yes spoken to them directly, its the inconsistency which strikes me and the fact they first 'wrote off' the frame without inspection, then apparantly fixed it (in about 40 mins according to the paper work) didn't think that the wear to the alloy sleev was noteworthy, though now they claim again its a write off. The bike shop have relayed a series of stories which they described as really bad customer service.
They also covered the chainstay under warranty but not the main triangle which was worn by the 'faulty' (assumed by the fact they replaced it for free) chainstay which cracked where the front derailleur cable passes through.
I cracked my Enduro after 2 years, replacement frameset received within a week!
Unusual to hear Spesh aren't being very helpful with warranty, they're usually very good. Sure this isn't coming from J E James?
JE James have been really helpful, I've no reason to distrust them. When I did speak to Specialized UK they were very unhelpful, getting increasingly cheesed off with not having a fully functioning bike for about 2 months now
Has anyone had difficulties with the warranties? I know they have a good reputation but in this case they have been terrible
ive has cracked frame
faulty helmet
faulty shoes over space of 10 years
no problems at all
From working for one of their top dealers for a decade they are far and away the best company to deal with, this is very uncharacteristic.
they (specialised and leisure lakes in bury) were great for me when I cracked a chainstay on my enduro. it was replaced without question, even thought the bike was 5 years old at the time
I'd be suspicious JE James aren't ballsing it up for you tbh. Everyone makes mistakes though.
