[#11360050]

Currently have a 2010 Ruby Elite with a mindset headset that's gone to a pile of dust.
The headset has proprietary cups pressed into the headtube. These can be removed and acb put in.
BUT this is the big BUT I cannot remove the cups!!
I've used the standard headset tool and no joy. Has anyone else come across this or can offer any words of wisdom?

TIA

You haven't tried hard enough. They are bonded and require a complete absence of mechanical sympathy

Then grow some balls and hit them harder

As I said Simon - they are out, why would I need to hit harder??

Ah, sorry, misunderstood that as you not wanting to fit a mindset and still wanting to get the cups out 🙂

I will add my steps so that anyone that bumps into that thread (like I did) finds it even more useful.

In my case, the frame in question is a Specialized Stumpjumper Pro Carbon 2007. I was concerned about the marriage between the carbon frame and the headtube whe I start hitting them hard, however, I didn’t see any other option. So, I managed to remove the headset using precisely dosed brute force (long screwdriver through the headtube and a rubber hammer). However, in order to make it easier, I soaked the headset cups with WD40 - one of them I left for 15 mins, the other - over the night. Fact is, the one that had the whole night to soak in was much easier to be popped out. It might be a coincidence, or not. Anyway, with 15-20 hits those got out.

Thanks to @bikerevivesheffield for their assistance!
