Hello,
I have the opertunity to buy a rear shock and I am wondering if anyone has any experiance of specialized enduro frames
mine is the same shape as this one
http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-specialized-enduro-frame-200506-model-with-dhx5-coil
My current rear shock i2i is 220mm (fox Van) and the dhx 5.0 shock I want is 228mm (9inch) Is this going to be an issue? Will the 8mm length difference cause a fitment issue or will the rear wheel just move to compensate?
The shock I would like to buy was fitted to the SX trail model.
Thanks
Joe
The sx trail looks like the same frame but there are some slight differences. The main one that you may have a problem with here is the shock shuttles are different. What is the stroke of the new shock you want to put on?
When running a longer i2i shock you run the risk of the frame topping out and running a longer stroke shock you run the risk of the frame bottoming out. Both can be catastrophic to the frame, I'm not saying it will but it could be.
Another thing that you have to think about with these frame is the size of the frame effects what measurement shocks you can put on it. A DHX 5.0 with all the bells and whistles wont fit on a small as the front triangle is too small. There are shorter shocks that wont fit on the larger frames because they will bottom out the frame but they will work on smaller frames. Some people have made custom shock shuttles to get around this but I think that's a little risky unless yo really know what your doing.
I personally run a RS Monarch+ that is 222x66 and that is fine on my medium frame.
HTH.
