I'm riding the TransAm and the local bike shop has only one tyre 700 x 28 that will fit in my frame. It's a Specialized armadillo at around $45. Are these any good for a laden touring bike. My vittoria randonneur rear tyre is worn through to the puncture protection layer in only 1300 miles. Will the specialized tyre be longer wearing?

I've only used them at 26x1.5 size. Best puncture protection of any tyre I've used and wear very well - I reckon you'll get a lot more mileage out of them.
However, the long life means they sacrifice some grip in the wet and the full 'armadillo' puncture protection that goes up the sidewalls means they can be a bitch to get on and off.
Heavyish, a bit of a bugger to get on and off as simons sez, plus the wet grippy thing, but really really hard wearing and proper puncture resistant. Mind you, the cheaper Flak Jakket versions are bloody good too, and a bit lighter and grippier.
I've seen Armadillo tyres worn right down but have had no punctures from new. In several years. Seen one pair that did a proper long tour; 3,500 miles or something, not one puncture.
the road ones ? roubaix armadillo or something ?
25s are bulletproof
Loving my road ones so far. No punctures is a good sign.
Great guys, I'll go for one. STWoogle is way better than google for a what tyre question.
Well, there ok but I find them a bit hard on the outside, soft on the inside.
