I am potentially looking to go from my current 04 enduro which I have a dhx 5.0 air on which measures 200x50
If I picked up an 06 frame and put this shock on I notice it is slightly shorter than stock what would the effect be?
Thanks
Kwack
Don't know mate, but remember that the 06 enduro uses a shock with no DU bush on the shaft end (I think - although this may have been the later ones). Not sure if this is a special eyelet size or just a normal shock eyelet with no DU bush.
Also, (IMHO) the BB height of the 06 enduro wasn't exactly high with the stock shock on. That's why it goes downhill so well! If you are talking about putting a shorter shock on, it will reduce the BB height further and slacken the head angle.
Hope this helps

Lower bb, slacker HA, and a potential wheel/seat tube interface that you'd need to check for your tyre/frame/shock combo.
A friend of mine did it to his similar vintage enduro and liked it, but am not sure of shock legnths involved.
grrr... simultaneous post. I think it is a normal eyelet with no bush on an enduro though...
...and the boost valve on the DHX5 may foul the frame on an 06 enduro, which is why the OEM DHX was a DHX4 for that bike... so lots to check before riding. And changing the shock on an enduro is a nightmare that requires 11 hands and the patience of a saint, as I'm sure you know.
Sorry to hijack the post - I have a rattle at the back of my enduro (06) and it does indeed have no bush in the shock eyelet. The rattle is typical of a worn bush in that there is vertical movement at the bottom eyelet, but with no bush to change I'm at a loss for how to fix it! Any ideas?
Don't worry, all solved! Just needed a hell of a lot of tightening... Seems nice and tight (for now at least)
huge amount of info in this thread, , lots of stuff about shock sizes etc, what can be shoehorned in and what can't.It may not have exactly waht you're looking for though. 😀
I think you'll have shock clearance problems though, and definitely ground clearance problems- there's lots of variables depending on whether it started as a 140 or a60 travel frame- I think the shuttles are different for starters. DHX5 air fits mine fine by the way, but it's the proper size.
Didn't one of the guys on ChocolateFoot do just this? Not sure if a piggy back shock though.
